Concept

Understanding the themes and vision Billie and his choreographers had was an important step to the shooting and editing process. Thematic keywords were disconnection, being together and separated. Choreographer, Nak, suggested to shoot each dancer/character separate and show them interconnected through the video.

Storyboarding

In preparation for the shoot, using the dance rehearsal as reference material for angles, shot and positioning, I drew the visual concept and compositions. With each character having their own frame meant triple the amount of takes plus the whole group shots.

Location

For location, we had access to an apartment lobby and also the surrounding public areas for our shoot. The time in the apartment lounge-room was limited and so we opted for the corridor of the lobby (fig 4). The shoot ran late in the night until 3:00AM in the morning, a happy coincidence.

Editing

Connecting the three characters came out really interesting however the black gaps made it look amateur and incomplete. I found a solution to use whole group shot as a background layer with the foreground elements more highlighted.
